An open letter to Sean Payton
Dear Mr. Payton,
You came to us in 2006, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and in the midst of our despair you and the New Orleans Saints lifted the spirits of a tired, devastated city. You put smiles on our faces when there wasn’t much else to smile about. You gave us something to look forward to each week and something to cheer for and feel good about! For these things, we, Saints fans everywhere, will always be eternally grateful!
The time has come now however, for us to put these sentimentalities aside for a bit and for all of us to face one glaringly obvious fact. We will never be a Super Bowl contender as long as Gary Gibbs is defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints.
Mr. Gibbs’ passive, unimaginative, reactive, never disguise, rarely blitz scheme simply does not work. Yes, we’ve been beleaguered by injuries this season. But, as you’ve said yourself on numerous occasions, we can not and will not use or accept injuries as an excuse!
Drew Brees and the offense should not be required to score 35+ points a game in order to give us any shot at winning a game. Sadly though, this has become the case.
Please do not squander Drew Brees’ prime by stubbornly refusing to admit that you made a mistake in hiring Gibbs. The time has come for you to show that you are sincerely committed to bringing this city a championship caliber football team. Bring in a new defensive coordinator who’s scheme will allow the defense to be every bit as dynamic and aggressive and your offense is.
It’s up to you Mr. Payton, to do the right thing for not only the fans, but for the players as well. Fire Gary Gibbs and give this team a real chance at winning a championship!
Sincerely,
Saints Fans Everywhere

FIRE HIM! Gibbs has been the defense’s plague since he got here.
its time for him to go.
we’ve switched out so many light bulbs on our defense. its time to realize the light socket is whats broke!
this is his 3rd year. if you can’t do it by now, you won’t ever.

Let me start off by expressing my thanks and appreciation for creating this site. Great Job!
let me start off by saying ,for some of us, the glaring weakness of this team is painfully obvious. This defense is terrible and an embarrassment.
Filling positions in the draft and through free agency cannot mask the inept coaching thrusted upon my eyes weekly on behalf of Gibbs and his “we just take the field and get ROLLED” defensive approach.
How either of you kept your jobs after Carolina mopped up their stadium with our entire team is beyond me, but let’s stick to the main focus here….Gibbs needs to go!
Sean you need to make a choice. Fire Gibbs or you start feeling the wrath for keeping him on the staff.
Time to start throwing your pal under the bus, and stop making excuses to keep him around.
FIRE GIBBS NOW!!!!!!

Heres what counts. Every year, the top teams in the NFL are usually among the top 10 in defense. Gary Gibbs is in his 3rd season. He inherited a bottom ranked defense, and 3 years later, despite a dramatic turnover in talent, it still remains a bottom ranked defense. If he were any good, we should have at least improved a little, to at least a middle-ranked average defense by now. We havent.
Watching the Saints on NFL Sunday ticket at noon, then switching to the Steelers, Ravens, Giants… ect game at 3:00 it becomes painfully obvious scheme is a huge part of this defenses failure. I watch those other teams attack and disrupt and play on the other side of the line of scrimmage creating havoc for QBs, RBs, and O lines… our defense just backpeddals and reacts. I have never seen a bend but dont break defense creat turnovers, sacks, and make regular appearances in the playoffs.
We wont either.
Lets go Payton. If Gibbs was any good, with all this talent, we should at least be improving by the 3rd year. The Gibbs experiment is over.
November 6th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Oh, and for the first time i TOTALLY respect Norv Turner of the Chargers. He just fired his Defensive Coordinator midway through the season because they also rank at the bottom of the league in defense, right next to the Saints. They also have injuries, but they get NO pressure, no turnovers, and have trouble getting off the field.
Sound familiar? Earn my respect. Fire Gibbs.

November 6th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Fire his ass!! Just cause he’s your buddy, don’t mean you don’t have to. He needs to go. Business is business. We need to get our defense where it needs to be. Even when we made it to the playoff in 06, we didn’t have a great defense. So from the beginning he has been a bad defense coordinator. We can’t gamble every season hoping he does something good. Our time is now.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:12 am
I like Payton, but I’ve had enough. if Payton will not take care of Gibbs, then payton needs to removed and take Gibbs with him.
im really sick of watching the saints lose because we have a bottom ranked defense when our offense is always on top.
look at the record leaders in the NFL this year. ALL of em have top defense’s.
look at the saints and chargers, both have bottom ranked defense’s.
coincidence? nope. defense’s win championships.
name me 1 team that had a bottom ranked defense in the last 10 years that won the superbowl! even the Rams when they won had the 6th best defense in the NFL.
the Colts come to mind, there season ranked defense was pretty bad. there offense got them to the championship. but then there defense got healthy, came back and gave a whoopin in the playoffs.
ravens, steelers, tampa bay. all top notch defense’s. titans are heading there this year.
we need a top 10 defense. Heck, i’d even settle for a top 15.
but it won’t ever happen under Gibbs. His scheme is read and react.
its bad coaching. we don’t take away passing lanes, we never get pressure on the QB. we never force turnovers and rarely get sacks.
our scheme is failing entirely. no press coverage what so ever. Gibbs allow his CB’s to line up 7 yards from the line of scrimmage and the WR, the WR never gets bumped and always runs his routes perfectly because of this and the timing is always perfect between the QB and WR because of this.
because of our lack of press coverage the QB gets entirely comfortable in his throwing rythem and rarely gets disrupted and our Dline never has time to even get pressure on him because our secandary plays read and react which always leaves the WR’s open.
and our secandary is ALWAYS making tackles from behind. even our safeties.
Gibbs and his defensive scheme and playcalling is pathetic. i mean seriously, 3rd and long and you send the house a blitz? come on, even a high school coach isn’t that stupid. way to lose us several games over the last 3 years Gibbs. F*ck You and get the F*ck off my team!!!!!
i swear you better not run into me on the streets, cause I’ll knock you so hard you’ll forget you even where a football coach!

a site like this has been a long time in coming! thanks to whoever put it up!
couldn’t agree more, Gary Gibbs must GO if we are to have any hope at all of ever making it to a Super Bowl.
November 9th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Go Gibbs Go!! Anywhere but here!
November 9th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Loomis needs to tell Payton to fire Gibbs immediately. If not, then all three should be fired!
Gibbs is nothing but an embarrassment to the entire team, the city of New Orleans, the fans AND the players!
Payton will surely lose the locker room (if he hasn’t already), if he does not fire this bum asap!
November 9th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
It has to be done. Gibbs Gumbo is killing the franchise.
November 9th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Finally, we get a proper site to voice our frustrations with the current DC and lack of defense. Gibbs cannot get it done and he must go. Please, FIRE GARY GIBBS.
November 9th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
#1- Fire Gibbs… he is the reason we are losing. No scheme, no vision, no real game plan.
#2- Get some serious CBs. Mike McKenzie is injured and is injury prone, Tracey Porter is getting better, but is out for the year. Glenn is old, Gay, is old, and JD doesn’t fit. (and even if he did, he’s like 4 feet tall)
#3- First priority for next draft… FS or SS… KK and Harper arent worth the $$$ we’re paying them.
We have the talent on the line, and I think our LB corps is pretty decent… lets make this work.
November 9th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
oh yeah… lets pick up Marvin Lewis when Cincy fires him.
November 9th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

November 9th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
agreed! Gibbs has got to go! The sooner Payton realizes that, the better off we’ll all be!
November 9th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
If Payton doesn’t fire Gibbs, soon ALL fans will be calling for Payton’s dismissal. If Payton gets rid of Gibbs, it will buy him time to turn this things around. The defense is an embarrassment
November 9th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Now wait a minute…before we go and lynch Gary Gibbs, let’s listen to the arguments in his favor, as well.
Okay, lynch him.
November 9th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Does anyone else get a sense of deja vu? Is this not Jim Haslett all over again? Magical first year then straight in the crapper every season after that. Payton is just like Haslett but Gibbs is worse than Venturi because we have more talent on defense now and they still cannot stop anyone. The defensive play-calling is horrible and a high school coach could figure out his simplistic and flawed defensive scheme. I never thought I would say this but take a cue from Norv Turner and FIRE GARY GIBBS!!!!!!!

November 10th, 2008 at 5:54 am
After giving this more thought, I have revised my opinion on the matter. Gary Gibbs should not be fired; he should quit. He should resign his position because it’s the right thing to do. He has shown himself incapable of running an NFL defense, and for the sake of the team that gave him this chance, for the sake of the players who have toiled under his misdirection, and especially for the sake of the fans who have loyally endured 40 years of incompetence and don’t deserve any more of this crap, he should step down.
If Gibbs has any honor at all, he won’t wait to be fired: he’ll tender his resignation. Should we hold our breaths?
November 10th, 2008 at 8:48 am
please fire Gibbs. There is absolutely no reason on this earth 11 players in the NFL could be this bad. It has to be all scheme and scheme is on the coach. Sometimes our defense looks like Pop ball. I was at the Falcon game. The defense is even more terrible in person. That game was essentially a playoff game and we played like it was the first game of the season..no intense..no pressure..no blitzing…we did not bring the heat to Matt Ryan at all. Other teams that beat Atlanta brought the heat to Matt Ryan. Can we please get someone from the Tampa, Philly, Pittsburgh or Gaints staff? First and foremost…FIRE Gibbs ass or go yourself Payton..Oh yeah..thanks for not utilizing Deuce.
November 10th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Agreed, Gibbs needs to go - should have been gone after last season. Saints’ defense is the main factor keeping us from being competitive.
November 10th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Listen up Sean Payton!! There are no more lame excuses for you to toss out to the fans and the media, because nobody is buying them!
FIRE YOUR PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR, GARY GIBBS!!
and while you’re at it hire somebody to do the play calling on offense!
November 10th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Sean Payton must be the only person on the planet who doesn’t see just how truly horrible Gary Gibbs is as a defensive coordinator!
Fire Gibbs Now!!!
November 10th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Gary Gibbs must go!!!!!
November 10th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Ok lets spread the blame around a little here. The Defensive coordinator only calls the plays and develops strategy on a weekly basis.
He doesnt decide who to draft and he doesnt sign free agents. He didnt cause all of the devastating injuries this year either.
We need a real GM to run the franchise. Micky Loomis is just a yes man for Benson. Benson only cares about the bottom line profit.
Benson hired Payton because he thought his brand of run and gun would sell tickets. It did at first but, it was a mirage. We had a soft schedule because of the 3-13 season the year before.
If you are looking for someone to fire I would start with Loomis and then Payton.
November 10th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
I totally agree, that Gibbs is the problem. It seems to me that no matter who we get in the offseason or draft to bolster our defense, the results are still the same. This tells me that it’s not the personnel, but the coaching. It seems that our receivers have trouble getting open against other DB’s, but the opposing WR’s run all over the field OPEN on our DB’s. I think that Tracey Porter will turn out to be a ball-hawking CB. Once we get another, and two new safeties we will be fine.
Why don’t we just change our scheme to the Tampa 2 scheme? It’s seems that works against our high-powered offense.
November 10th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Sounds like it’s unanimous! Gibbs must go!!! I watched part of the Bears/Titans game yesterday and thought to myself…with either of those two defenses playing for the Saints, we’d win every game. C’mon Payton!!! Firing your kickers isn’t the answer. Fire someone that will really make a difference!!! Gibbs must go!! Gibbs must go!!! Gibbs must go!!! Got it??? Good!
November 10th, 2008 at 12:44 pm

November 10th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
we need a new start on defense , not wait till next year , lets fire gibbs now
November 10th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
i second that , gibbs is horrible and must gooooooooooo!!!
November 10th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
are you going to mail this to benson , cause i want gibbs out of here . This defense has no intensity and looks sluggish . Injuries bought him some time but i knew it was the scheme the whole time. we suck
November 10th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Please get rid of the entire coaching staff. Like Forest Gump said ” The Saints are like a box of Chocolates you’ll never know what you are going to get” This defense has no heart, fire, passion , and the worst scheme in the entire league. Other teams have younger aggressive players who dont mind making contact, all we have are bunch of soft need help over the top players who never lay the wood but try to strip the ball Db’s. we love our black and Gold but you are making us very sick on a weekly basis.
November 10th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
This guy needs to go. We have alot of talent on defense that does not get used. At points during this season we have started three 1st round draft picks on Defensive line and still get no pressure on the QB…….Gibbs and his horrible scheme need to go.
November 10th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Gary Gibbs is to Sean Payton as Rick Venturi is to Jim Haslett.
November 10th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
fire gibbs? How ’bout a petition for sean payton to fire himself? I was calling for his ass after he lost to chicago in the 2006 super bowl run. I called for his ass last season after all his “earn it” commercials blew up in his face. Marty Shottenheimer would have these same saints in the playoffs 3 years in a row. Sean Payton should go apply to manage Oz’s gay niteclub on bourbon st. That’s where his trickery best belongs.
November 10th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
gibbs may suck, but he didn’t :
1. Cut john carney
2. Practice indoors in new orleans all week prior to their playoff game in Chicago. Chicago has an indoor facility, yet their coach had the balls to practice outdoors in the freezing snow….and look who got to the super bowl?
3. Keep going for it on 4th downs when a field go would’ve made more sense.
4. Kick onsides kicks with almost 10 minutes left in the game.
5. Call for an intentional safety against the chargers when up by 9 points. Lucky that hail marry failed…..but payton really thought it better to be up by 7 than by 9?
6. Start out every game with a long bomb to henderson, rather than a few deuces up the middle.
Let’s face it. The defense tried hard at the beginning of the season. The defense no longer feels like propping up that lame offense and is no longer putting forth the effort just so payton can lose the game with his bad coaching no matter how great the defense might be.
November 10th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Kill him!!!! i mean fire him
November 10th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Fire Gibbs and do an over-haul of our entire defense. Cut high-priced players that under-achieve and give the youngsters a chance. Did I mention fire Gibbs?
After that, I will can maybe hire Gibbs to run the economy for me until I leave office in January. He couldn’t do any worst.
November 10th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
please start a fireseanpayton.com site also. That will be much more popular and a lot of saint’s players will probably post comments to support the firing of that straight up idiot. Please ?
November 10th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
as long as gibbs is still on this team along with will smith and charles grant, i will never buy another ticket to a saints game ever again.
November 10th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
enough is enough as far as Gibbs is concerned! Another season wasted because of Sean Payton’s poor judgment. Fire Gibbs now!
November 10th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
To Whom It May Concern,
Well this is strange. I have never had a entire website devoted to asking my employer to fire me. I have been coaching since 1975, it is all I know. When I took the linebackers coaching job in Dallas I was so happy to have made it to the NFL after coaching 18 years in college. Then when Sean ask me to join his staff in New Orleans as the Defensive Coordinator just after three seasons in Dallas, I felt like I had finally arrived. What a great opportunity I thought. A chance to come to a Franchise and help turn it around. A chance to come to a city and help rebuild. After the first year, I thought this was going to be easy with all the success we had in the first year. After last years effort I have had a change of heart, I started questioning myself. This year has been extremely difficult on me and my family, not to mention the coaching staff and the Team. We all had such high hopes this season. I had such high hopes. The defense is my responsibility. I have not done a good job thus far, but I am not a quitter. I will do everything in my power to prepare this defense to play to the best of my ability weekend and week out. This Team and The City OF New Orleans deserve better. I will do better! We will make this team a winner!
Sincerely,
Gary Gibbs
November 10th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
note to fake Gary Gibbs….just do us all a favor and leave now. Stop dragging your family into this. JUST GO!!!!
November 10th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Yep, it is time to get what we deserve out of our defense. We have a billion dollar defensive line who play like little leaguers, subpar linebacking besides Vilma, and a horrible secondary who cover like saran wrap with holes in it. I think the Saints need to ask for their own Billion dollar bail out plan from the government. Is it that maybe the players are not good enough, well possibly a few, but maybe just maybe it is Gibby’s FAULT. Time to say goodbye and move on to someone who actually gives a damn. Cause I am sick of watching Saints games already knowing that we can’t consistently stop anyone and that we have to score 35+ per game to even have a chance to win.
November 10th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I concur….
November 10th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Sean Payton, the buck stops with you buddy! If you don’t fire Gibbs you’ll be proving to the world that you simply don’t give a damn if we win or not.
It’s bad enough we have players who give very little in exchange for huge contracts, are we going to be stuck with a head coach that does the same?
Fire Gibbs now!
November 10th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Well …if you are truly Gary Gibbs…I must say that you have a fair amount of courage to answer the many posts calling for your dismissal. While none of us Saints fans hold any personal ill feeling towards you or your family, what we do hold against you is the continuing poor defensive schemes we see week after week. We understand the problems posed to the team this year by the many injuries we have endured. However, most of us have followed the Saints faithfully for years through good times and bad. We have a better than average knowledge of the game and cannot help but grimace as we continue to see the defense get run over and passed on weekly. Whatever scheme you are using is certainly not working and as the coordinator is it up to you to make the adjustments and try new things to accomplish simple things such as getting pressure on the quarterback, covering the receivers tighter and playing some solid hard hitting defense!! If you can’t accomplish this, then please do the right thing for the team and let someone else take a shot.
November 11th, 2008 at 12:36 am
Sean Payton, a rookie QB made your defense look like bumbling idiots! You really need to think about that long and hard!
Way past time to give Gibbs his walking papers!

November 11th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Sean Payton needs to fire Gibbs NOW, not at the end of the season! It obvious that even the players have zero confidence in Gibbs, so why not give them at least a little hope that things have WILL change?!
People gripe about certain players not playing up to their potential once they get their money, but who can blame them really. Why go out and give 110% and risk season ending or perhaps a career ending injury when it’s painfully obvious to them, the media and the fans that this team is going nowhere as long as Gibbs is DC!
Fire Gibbs NOW, not later!!
November 11th, 2008 at 10:10 am
My man GG, whatsup? I started to write this a week ago but i wanted to give you a little slack and hope with the bye week and all, that things would get better. The Atlanta game proved to me that things are still the same, and maybe even worse now. I know times are hard and everyone needs their jobs, but accountability is still a high priorty in the NFL. The first question i have for you is this, “does your so called defense ever win games for the Saints”, if so feel free to point it out because i’ve never seen the Saints win any games like 13-10, 17-13, or likewise since you came aboard. Yea i know your boy Payton likes to score the rock, and you’re just the sidekick who’s in charge of the defense, but shouldn’t you take some pride in what you do? Doesn’t it make you feel bad knowing the Saints could be 8-1, or 7-2 instead 4-5, if only the DEFENSE could contribute something!! I know injuries will be the excuse you give but even a terrible team like the Raiders, Lions, or KC can muster up 1 or 2 good defensive games. The Saints have the #1 ranked offense and YOU have a bottomfeeding defense, shouldn’t that make you feel very bad. Do you ever think you will be employed again without Payton tagging along. All i can say is, the fans are getting tired of this crap you call a defense. May i suggest you study more or maybe just leave and go to college and coach there. The bottom line is, the Saints were superbowl contenders and probably still would be if your side of the ball was bringing something to the table, instead they are 4-5 and falling fast. Your boy Payton might not say it but we the fans are, sorry Gibbs, you must go.
((((((((((FIRE GIBBS NOW))))))))))))
I’m jbSaint4life and i approve of this message!!

FIRE GARY GIBBS NOW!!! We need to find a Defensive Coordinator that actually cares and is motivated… Look at what Bo Pelini is doing to the huskers in one year… You need to put your foot down and get on Cribbs case…. With all of this talent and the best you can do is 4 wins????
November 11th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
I’m just a FAN(atic). I’m not a NFL defensive coordinator. But how could we allow a rookie QB sit in the pocket pick our defense apart? About 85% of his passes were toward the sideline, which is the safest throw a rookie QB can make because it’s hard for the CB to defend and if anything goes wrong, the ball is already near the sideline. He stared down the receivers and completed, I don’t know how many out routes. We never got pressure on him (Ryan). We have invested alot into our defense this pass off season, but it doesn’t seem like it. We don’t force turnovers, we dont get pressure. Allowing a team to go score for score is actually putting pressure on the offense. That’s probably why Sean Payton doesn’t run the ball that much. FIRE HIS ASS.
November 11th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
fire his a$$!!! HE sucks and should have been fired last year. Hire Mike Singletary!

FIRE GIBBS NOW!
November 12th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Season ticket holder for the past 23 years here.
Could not agree more that Gibbs needs to go! I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but he’s completely clueless as a defensive coordinator. I also agree with others that he should be fired now and not at the end of the season. No matter who he promotes to fill-in during the meantime certainly can not do any worse, and at least Payton will be showing the fans NOW that he’s committed to bringing us a winning team.
You can’t ask players to go out there week in and week out and sacrifice their bodies for a team and a head coach who’s not willing to do what needs to be done to ensure we have the best possible chance of winning.
You can’t ask fans to support a team 100% when the head coach is not willing to do what needs to be done to ensure we have the best possible chance of winning.
Please fire Gibbs now and give us all a little hope for the future.
November 12th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Gary Gibbs’ defensive scheme wouldn’t be effective in Div 1AAA. Get this guy outta here while the offense is still good enough to carry the load until we can find somebody who will at least blitz once in a game.
November 12th, 2008 at 1:34 am
another season ticket holder here who’s sick and tired of this totally embarrassing defense! Please fire Gary Gibbs!!! He does not belong in the NFL!
November 12th, 2008 at 7:03 am
Coach Payton firing Gibbs would really be a boost for team and fan moral. It needs to be done asap.
November 12th, 2008 at 7:05 am
HEY BENSON!!!!!!!!!!! FIRE GIBBS AND PAYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND IF YOU DONT FIRE THE FERRETT THEN ATLEAST BRING IN A DECENT OFF. COORDINATOR! CUZ THIS COACH OF OURS IS A FN JOKE TO THE NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 12th, 2008 at 7:23 am
As a season ticket holder I too ask that Gibbs be fired now.
Our season is done, everybody knows that. Why not give us fans something to look forward to when we drag our asses down to the dome to watch the team play for the home games we have left? At least I wouldn’t feel like I wasted my hard earned money on season tickets… again!
November 12th, 2008 at 7:45 am
Embarrassing time to be a Saints fan, that’s for sure!! Gibbs has got to go!!!!!!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:10 am
Mr. Benson must be kicking himself for a number of reasons right now. Mostly for giving Payton a contract extension, but also for spending millions and millions on a defense that’s headed up by somebody as totally clueless as Gary Gibbs! Gibbs has no idea what the word AGGRESSIVE means! His passive prevent defensive scheme is incredibly painful to watch!
If Sean Payton refuses to fire Gibbs now then Mickey Loomis needs to step in and do it for him! But will I hold my breathe for this to happen? No I won’t, because Payton is too damned stubborn for his own good, and Loomis is Payton’s lapdog!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Hey Coach, if you dont fire him we walk!!! BTW….we need to re-bury that fn coffin you had us dig up!!! And put GIBBS in it!!!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:31 am
glad to see that I’m not the only one who feels that Gibbs needs to be run out of town!
can’t help but question Payton’s judgment when he continues to express confidence in his coaching staff week after week.
whether it’s stubborness, stupidity, denial or a combination of them all, Payton needs to get his head out of his ass and fire Gibbs now if he hopes to ever have any credibility.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:33 am
oh, and if Payton is hoping that a win in Kansas City this Sunday will change anyone’s opinion on this he is sadly mistaken!
fire the bum now!!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:47 am
FIRE GARY GIBBS NOW!
I encourage EVERYONE who will be attending the Monday night game against Green Bay to bring their “FIRE GARY GIBBS” signs with them!! It’s a nationally televised game and we WILL make our voices heard!!
November 12th, 2008 at 9:11 am
section144, not a bad idea! we have 4 season tickets here and I’ll make sure we each have a sign! this team will never get any better as long as Gibbs is DC!
with most of our draft picks gone there’s no hope of improving the secondary through the draft, and with Gibbs as DC FA’s will not want to come here. something has to be done now!
November 12th, 2008 at 9:27 am
I support this website! Gary Gibbs has got to go!!
November 12th, 2008 at 9:34 am
I was honestly hoping that we’d see some kind of announcement this week on Gibbs being fired, doesn’t look like that’s going to happen though.
Section144, my wife and I will definitely bring a sign to the Monday night game.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Gibbs needs to go, but so does Payton! He’s proven time and time again that he lacks good judgment.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:56 am
To the powers that be: Please fire Gary Gibbs.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:02 am
oh hell yeah! Section144 you can count me and my brother in on bringing signs to the Green Bay game! This clown has to go! if Payton won’t do it hopefully Loomis or Benson will!
November 12th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Gibbs should have been fired 2 years ago! This is the Haslett era all over again!
November 12th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Our season is in the freaking tank already so there’s no reason to keep Gibbs on until the end of the season. If Gibbs gave a damn about the team at all he’d resign immediately. But it’s like the blind leading the blind out there on Airline Drive.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Count me in, Gibbs must go. Extraordinary turnover on D last 3 yrs, big contracts to keep our best players, and no progress.
I hate .500 Saints teams who get destroyed by Rookie QB’s….right Coach Haz?
November 12th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
yep, time to cut loose the dead weight! Gary Gibbs must go! Everyone can see that he is singlehandedly destroying this team and it’s on Payton to do something about it!
November 12th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
count me in for a sign too. I’ll gladly make a “Fire Gary Gibbs” sign and bring it to the monday night game against green bay. This crap is really getting old, and if I hear Payton say one more time “we have to do a better job of coaching, and that starts with me..” my head is going to fkn explode!
No wonder Payton wanted Shockey so badly, he’s just like him. All talk and very little action! Time to put up or shut up coach!
November 12th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Payton would have to be a complete and total moron to not realize on his own that Gibbs must go. Problem here is Gibbs is a friend of Payton’s and Payton isn’t going to fire him before the end of the season because of some stupid sense of loyalty.
Friends first, team second. Isn’t that a nice attitude for a head coach to have?
bah!
November 12th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Not much I can say that hasn’t already been stated here, but I do agree 100% that Gary Gibbs has to go!
November 12th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Get Ron Zook now.
November 12th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Everywhere I’ve gone the past 3 days this is all anyone is talking about. Work, restaurants, stores and even my dentist office waiting room, EVERYBODY wants Gibbs gone!
Count me in for a Fire Gibbs sign at the next home game!
November 12th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Sean Payton, it’s time to cut the man loose already!
Unless of course you’d like to personally refund season ticket holders their money. A lot of us scrimp and save all year just to buy those tickets.. not the you care.
Thanks for nothing!
November 12th, 2008 at 6:00 pm

November 12th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Been a Saints fan all my life and I don’t think I’ve ever been more disgusted with the defense than I am right now. As far as I’m concerned, Sean Payton can either fire Gibbs now or he can be his usual stubborn self and not fire him, in which case Benson needs to fire them both.
Gibbs is absolutely pathetic, but Sean Payton is even worse for allowing it to continue.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Please Sean do us all a favor and fire Gary, I know he is your friend but if you dont watch it he will eventually be the reason you lose your job. We have championship talent, please get a championship caliber DC that way we can finally win the Super Bowl!!!!
November 13th, 2008 at 10:33 am
We need to release Coach Gibbs and try to pick up Wade Phillips, Mike Singletary or Marvin Lewis possibly when available by year end . For the most part whe have talent when healthy, but too conservatie. These coaches are aggressive and give our players a chance to make a play.
November 13th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Coach Payton, I have to agree with everyone else. It’s time to do the smart thing and fire Gary Gibbs. It’s time to put friendships aside and do what needs to be done. The owner, the team and the fans all deserve better.
November 13th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 13th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Please fire Gary Gibbs!
November 13th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
yeah, keeping Gibbs as DC is really reflecting badly on Payton, and the longer it goes on the worse it looks. Gibbs has to go, and the sooner the better. Promote Vitt or Orgeron up as temporary DC until the end of the season and then bring in somebody who will make this defense just as aggressive as our offense is.
Payton is stubborn, but he’s got to face facts.
November 13th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
I agree with everybody else, Gibbs has got to go!!
Only question left is, is Payton stubborn enough to let Gibbs cost him his own job?
November 13th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
My husband and I have been season ticket holders for 9 years now and we’ve never been one’s to do the sign thing. However, come the Monday night game against Green Bay we will most certainly have our “Fire Gary Gibbs” signs on display.
We sacrifice a lot to be able to afford our season tickets every year, and for Sean Payton to be so stubborn as to keep this man on staff when it’s painfully obvious to anyone with an IQ over 40 that he’s the very worst defensive coordinator in the league is almost unforgivable.
Shows me that he really doesn’t care about the fans or the sacrifices we have to make in order to attend games.
I’ll be the first to admit that I was fooled by him in 2006, but no more! He’s no different from any other stubborn, hard-headed coach we’ve ever had.
You listen to me Sean Payton, GARY GIBBS MUST GO NOW!
I’m more angry right now than I was immediately after the Atlanta game, and the reason for that is.. Gary Gibbs is still here! It is totally unbelievable to me that you have not fired him yet! Extremely poor judgment on your part.. AGAIN!
November 14th, 2008 at 2:23 am
FIRE GIBBS NOW!!!
November 14th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Please fire Gary Gibbs! Yesterday wouldn’t have been soon enough.
November 14th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Everyone on this site has missed the boat. It’s not gary gibbs……….it’s sean payton that needs to go. Saints defense has been much better this year. Held Adrian Peterson to 50 yards. Haven’t given up all those long bombs like last season. The problem is any defense is going to grow weary of putting forth good effort just to watch payton blow the game anyway with awful coaching. After about 3 losses that can be directly blamed on payton I sense the defense just threw in the towel and resigned themselves to the mediocrity that is and will always be your boy Sean “dumbass” Payton.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Do whats right and fire Mr. Gibbs. Please do us one more favor and
get rid of Will Smith and Charles Grant. I don’t care if you have to release
them because they are a big part of the problem.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Coach Payton, you are a great young coach. A bit stubborn with the passing game, but hey, you have a old declining warrior in Deuce McAllister and an injured Reggie Bush there so I can understand why you would like to put the game in the hands of Drew Brees as much as you can. I am glad you got your extension…however, I will no longer be glad if I have to deal with another season of piss poor defensive management. Gibbs’s time in New Orleans has run its course. In his first season he did an admirable job taking a patchwork defense and making it decent. I’ll even give him 2007, he did not have the horses on defense to win games. But enough is enough. He has three 10 Sack guys at DE, a young stud at DT, a stud MLB in his prime, granted his secondary is beleagured by injuries, but before the injuries, they were not playing well. It is time to get rid of him, and get us a Steve Spagnoulo type at D-Coordinator. Because the Giants won a Super Bowl with less talent in the secondary and I will venture to say comparable talent on the D-Line. Get a guy that’ll bring the heat, cause turnovers, and complement the best offense in the NFL that you have built. Mike Martz did it in St. Louis for a while (he coached the offense, and Lovie Smith coached the defense), so you can do it too!
November 15th, 2008 at 12:37 am
dude, I mean DUDE! 4-5! 7-9? 140 million plus for the 2 duds on the DL?
wake up man, when you got here you flushed out alot of players, do it again, and make ogeron the D-coordinator. Gibbs does suck, and if he doesn’t blitz now, we are back to seeing jason david get burnt on every play. after we lose to the chiefs this weekend by 30 points, something has to change, get rid of gibbs and put grant on the trading block next year. deuce has lost a couple of steps. coulda got asante samual, coulda got deangelo hall, 2 words:
PAUL RHOADS! 41 years and no superbowl, dont be a chowder head, make the change!
November 15th, 2008 at 2:02 am
Man ill tell you what THANKS for who started this you DA man all bull aside this is the same thing that went down when Haslet promoted Rick V,ihave much respect for Sean he will do the right thing and let him work with the LBs again and get someone in here that knows what hes doing sorry Gary but you have to go!!!!!! Whodat!!!!!
November 15th, 2008 at 2:41 am
Count me in for a “Fire Gary Gibbs” sign on the 24th!
If Sean Payton wants to stick his head in the sand and claim he has complete confidence in Gibbs that’s fine, but at least the national audience of that Monday night game will know that Saints fans disagree strongly!
Payton’s judgment these days is less than impressive.
November 15th, 2008 at 3:04 am
Coach we all hope you read these letters as they will save your job if you listen to the greatest fans in the nfl. FIRE THAT SORRY EXCUSE OF A DEF. COORDINATOR A.S.A.P Before we have to see you leave as you are a great head coach. don’t lose your job because of your loyalities, find someone that knows what a defense is, for he is the best offensive player on any team we play. please, please fire him!!!!!!!!!!
November 15th, 2008 at 4:19 am
san diego’s former D coordinator, ted cottrell needs a job. he should be the hired no later than the end of the regular season and before the playoffs begin. let gibbs finish out cuz firing him won’t change anything. it’s not like we’re making the playoffs anyway. hell, i don’t care, do whatever. just get gibbs the hell out of here
November 15th, 2008 at 6:55 am
You can’t shoot the trainer for a horse falling in a pothole. Gibbs may not be the greatest in the league but he doesn’t play a down on Sundays. The Saints have to do like all good (great?) teams do. When you start (?) to flounder, go back to the basics. Football is football and, realistically, all pro teams play basically the same defense…it’s the guys on the field that make the difference. Teach your guys to, most importantly, wrap up a guy when they tackle (?) him. Use your arms to bring the guy down, not your body as a missle to make the highlight reels. The other guys on the defens shouldn’t ever be on camera just standing around waiting for the whistle to be blown. Every player still on his feet should be hustling (Do the Hustle!) to the ball to help the guy with his arms around the ball carrier get the guy to the ground…before he lunges forward and picks up the first down!. That is called TEAMWORK! The quickest I see these guys move is when they (finally) make a tackle or a sack (?), rushing up to their feet to make a pose for the camera…yeah….good job…finally! Another thing…how hard is it to teach a guy not to block in the back? If you can read a guys name or number on his jersey…that’s his back! DON’T BLOCK HIM THERE! If these multi-millionaires would start having to give up some of their cash for these mistakes, maybe that would be an incentive. One thing on the offensive side of the ball….how many times does Lance Moore (and others) have to get penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct (excessive celebration) after scoring a touchdown? Does Coach Payton ever sit these guys down and tell them how much it hurts the DEFENSE on the next series? I am sure that he does but again, I think a fine should be in order for this stupid infraction. Show some class, fellas. Just let Deuce score the touchdowns from now on and see what class is all about. It is time for this team to start taking some responsibility for what is going on this season. It all starts NOW…not next year!
November 15th, 2008 at 8:10 am
I can’t handle the pain anymore. We are becoming the laughing stock of this league. Please make this change. Don’t go down with this guy. Botton line, when an organization fails- leadership must be changed. Make the change.
November 15th, 2008 at 8:34 am
bring in a guy like ron rivera to run the defense he has a physicle scheme
November 15th, 2008 at 9:23 am
You have already changed enough players, brought in enough free agency it is time to change defensive coordinators,it is all about changes. Just look at the election for president, it was about chaning,as for the next D/C what about San Fran. interm coach Mike Singletary or soon to be fire head coach of Cincinnati Marvin Lewis. They are two very good D/C,but by all means it is time for Gibbs to pack his bags!!!!!
November 15th, 2008 at 9:45 am
We can force Ray Lewis in retirement and pay the man to run the defense!
November 15th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Please do not waste time in this process. Admit your mistake and let him go now.
November 15th, 2008 at 11:05 am
The problem rests with the defense coaches. When is the last time you seen one of our corners jam a receiver at the line. This is the NFL you don’t give the wr a 15 yard cushion and expect to make the play. Timing is everything in this league, you take away the timing then the offense struggles. Look at what Atlanta did to us, the corners were physical and that threw our timing off and brees had a big game. No creative blitz package, we blitz from the same angle when we do blitz. No creativity, true the players have to perform but the coaches must put them in position to make plays.FIRE GARY GIBBS ASAP!
November 15th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Gibbs needs to go. Scott Fujita likes him because he is a good LB coach, and he coached him in Dallas. He may be a good LB coach, but he cannot lead a defense. Ask Mike McKenzie how Gibbs compares to his former coordinators. Ask the D-line how well he calls stunts and blitzes. He is setting us up to fail. He tells the DBs to line up 12 yards off the line, basically in Cover 2, but he wants them to play man. You can’t cover a receiver closely with no OLB or S help when you start off so far away! Please Sean and Mickey, go out and get an experienced coordinator like Gregg Williams, sign playmakers like Terrell Suggs and Marcus Trufant in the offseason. Forfeit a first round pick if the money is an issue. We have a win now team with veteran studs! We just need a solid, consistent defense to get us there!
November 15th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I will always support the Saints as a team, but I can not support Gary Gibbs as defensive coordinator. If Scott Fujita likes him so much maybe Payton can make Gibbs the linebackers coach instead of DC.
Unfortunately, the Saints are going nowhere as long as Gibbs runs the defense. Hopefully Sean Payton gets the memo.
November 15th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Gibbs has got to go!!!
November 15th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
The blitz schemes are horrible! They don’t work and we don’t try them in the right situations. We only send blitzes on 3rd and 17 when we have a 7 point lead at home in the forth quarter in our own territort.(vikings game) lol Fire him!
November 15th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
I agree with this website……FIRE Gibbs. He is not the solution for these horrible defensive numbers! Please Sean, u can do alot better! The Saints will NEVER compete with any play-off team as long as SORRY GARY GIBBS is sending in the defensive plays!! Granite….injuries has taken a toll on us but damn it really doesnt make a difference. If the scheme is there it shouldnt matter whose in the game at which position!! Enough is enough…..FIRE GIBBS!!!
November 15th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
i’ve been a season ticket holder for ten years. I sold my remaining tickets for this season and I will not be a season ticket holder again until Gibbs is fired! Tom Benson is selling a defected product that needs to be fixed! I am a very very unsatisfied customer.
November 15th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Agree…this is THE WORST Saints defense I’ve seen in the thirty years of watching this franchise. Completely embarrassing. And this is with loads of talent in the front 7. If some want to cut leniency on the secondary b/c of injuries, think of this: winners don’t whine about their injuries. That’s what a successful scheme provides. Our offense is still #1 even with Bush, Colston, and others out b/c the offensive scheme works regardless of who is out there (Henderson, Moore, etc.). But on defense? It wouldn’t work even if we had all the horses out there. You just don’t play 7-10 yards off a professional WR and rush 4 at a professional QB and not expect to get picked apart. That’s insane thinking and illogical. You might be a nice guy, Gibbs, but you are a moron who just happens to be running an NFL defense. I’d love to have the luck you have…you know, to be so incompetent at what you do and STILL get paid doing it…must be nice.
November 16th, 2008 at 12:42 am
I’m really starting to lose a lot of respect for Payton. He’s going to stubborn himself right out of this job sooner or later. If he doesn’t fire Gibbs then he’ll be proving to me that he’s just like all of the others. Loomis needs to go too for allowing this crap to continue week after week.
November 16th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Even in Brazil people want to fire him, and I’m one of those who want it too.
Fire him, brazilian are asking for it.
November 16th, 2008 at 10:07 am
So many of us Saints fans budget year after year to afford to watch our Saints play in the Dome, London, etc…
Peyton, Benson, Loomis- This is not your team- This is OUR team. If it’s not for us loyal fans, there are no Saints and YOU don’t receive your 6 and 7 figure paychecks.
We see coaches amd GM’s change year after year however, the fans are don’t change. It’s time for the dye hard fans voices to be heard.
Fire that assh*le and let’s not waste anymore time.
November 16th, 2008 at 11:02 am
As Mr Trump sez, “YOU’RE FIRED!”
November 16th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
The win today at Kansas City doesn’t change a thing. Gary Gibbs still has to go!!
November 16th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
I am very excited that the Saints won today (granted it, it was against the Chiefs, but I’ll take it.) But Gibbs gotta go.
Look Sean, you always say “Play Smart, Play Hard”, but this applies to you too as coach. We all love Drew Brees as our quarterback and we believe he will leads us to the Superbowl, but give the man some defense! He can’t do it on his own!! Please fire Gibbs. He hurt our chances last year for the playoffs and he is doing it again this year. Remember: Defense wins games; offense fills the stadium.
November 16th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
yeah, although I’m happy to get the W today’s win means nothing. Against the worst defense in the NFL we only won by 10. Our defense looked better but hell.. almost anyone can look good going up against Kansas City. Long past time for Gibbs to go! I hope that Sean Payton is listening.
November 17th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Gary Gibbs may be a good position coach, but he’s definitely not a good defensive coordinator. Hopefully coach Payton will do what needs to be done and he’ll release Mr. Gibbs.
November 17th, 2008 at 9:45 am
I’m sure he’s a nice guy and all of that, but he’s not a good defensive coordinator and he’s never going to be a good defensive coordinator. If Gary Gibbs is really your friend Sean Payton then you should let him go so that he can find a job that he truly is good at, whatever that may be.
November 17th, 2008 at 11:20 am
I have to agree. Tell Gibbs thanks for the effort but it’s clearly not his forte’. I hear Wendy’s is hiring.
November 17th, 2008 at 11:43 am
I wholeheartedly agree. hes awful. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.
November 17th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Gibbs run D = forever 8-8
November 17th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Everyone needs to bring “Fire Gary Gibbs” signs to the next game. Sean Payton will ignore the problem until he’s forced not to! Too damn stubborn for his own good!
November 17th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired of this damned defense! It’s time for Gibbs to go! We will never get anywhere as long as he’s defensive coordinator! Why is it that everyone but Gary Gibbs, Sean Payton and Scott Fujita can see that? Gibbs has got to go, and the sooner the better imo!
November 17th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Everybody knows that Gibbs needs to be fired.
Well almost everybody anyway…
November 18th, 2008 at 7:06 am
Coach Peyton!
Don’t let this platonic love affair with Gibbs kill your career in New Orleans.
( Remember Jim Mora and Carl Smith, Jim Haslett and Aaron Brooks)
Let Gibbs find his true calling. Can he sing? Maybe he’s a long lost brother of the Bee Gees.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Got to agree with everybody else here. Gary Gibbs is a pathetic excuse for a defensive coordinator. If Payton can’t see that then he himself doesn’t need to be a head coach.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Coach Payton,
Remember this, football is a business and ultimately you will pay the price for what happens. The defense is 24th in the league. Have you heard of the term,” what have you done for me lately?. Well, if you don’t get rid of Gary Gibbs, both of you will be heading out of New Orleans. Stop wasting a good offense because you refuse to hold coaches accountable for poor performance. It’s time for you to get tough and for heads to roll. Please act now!!!!!!!
November 18th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Mr. Sean Payton,
We all know that you are the coach, we are the fans, and ultimately the decision is yours. I’m sure that you and the team value your professional opinion and decision on Gibbs more than that of any mobbing angry fans. Besides the obvious, which is that our beloved Saints defensive scheme and performance is terrible and if not completely, is greatly a direct reflection of Gibbs ability as a defensive coordinator, your reputation with New Orleans Saints fans is on the line as well. We all know that you are smart enough to make “cuts” when they are necessary….i think that 3 years of defensive failure is more than enough of a motive to make this cut. How many more seasons are you going to make us wait to see our teams full potential? There is one major decision that will put us in the right direction and this is it. Seems like an easy decision to me. Make the necessary changes for your team and for your fans. We all love the saints, but are tired of dissapointments.
November 19th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Well I agree with everyone on here that says we need to fire Gary Gibbs, but we can not forget about our Head coaching problem as well. Personally, I think Sean Peyton sucks as a head coach. He is a great offense coord. though.
We talk about all those teams who make it to the Super Bowl have great defenses, but what you all also fail to mention is that those teams have a well balanced offense as well. They have a good mix of run and pass offense. We can not win anything with Brees throwing the damn ball 40+ times and running the ball 15 times.
If anyone remembers that magical season of 2006, we had a well balanced offense of running and passing. Well, Coincedentally in the NFC game our run game disappears and Brees throws the ball 50 times and we lose.
A better example is the undefeated Patriots from last year. When Tom Brady started passing more than they ran the ball the have not won a ring since.
November 20th, 2008 at 10:14 am
GG whatsup? Big game this Monday night. The world and the fans will be watching. Hope you got the master plan, because GB can light it up. Did you see what they did to the Bears? I know the Bears D is pretty good, so i’m sure GB is salivating at the mouth and can’t wait to come to town. Now is the time to MAN up and show us fans something. If not i’m sure you will hear the boo’s raining down from the Dome. The “Gibbs got to go” chants and signs will be on display on monday, and I’m sure the MNF crew lead by Korny himself will mention you a few times as well. So good luck, the pressure is on. Payton will start looking over his shoulder a little more if you screw this one up !

As a Giants fan, I can confirm that you will win nothing of any significance without a big-time defense. If Gibbs is as conservative as you all say he is, then it’s definitely time to make changes. The Giants’ Super Bowl last year was made possible by slowing down the Cowboys’ offense, holding Brett Favre to only one big play, and blitzing Brady on nearly every play. The defense was the difference. The Giants defense in the playoffs last year(4 games) allowed a grand total of 190 yards rushing, but the aggressive style of Steve Spagnuolo is the whole difference.
2 years ago, it was the same players on defense(Strahan, Umenyiora, Tuck, Kiwanuka, Pierce, Webster, Wilson, etc..), but their D-Coord. was Tim Lewis, a guy who worked under Cowher in Pittsburgh. He was conservative, didn’t like to blitz, and the players didn’t believe in him. The defense was awful(you guys beat us 30-0 in our building late in the season). The Giants fire Lewis, and hire Spagnuolo, a guy who worked under Jim Johnson in Philly, and if you know Johnson at all, you know he blitzes with reckless abandon. That’s the exact system Spagnuolo implemented here, and it was a wild success last year. The players LOVED the aggressive style, and all of a sudden the same players who were embarassed at home by the Saints 2 years ago were burying Tom Brady and Randy Moss in February.
Pass that story along to Payton. He did a decent job here running the offense, but you have to remember he had his playcalling duties taken away mid-season in 2000, and the Giants promptly made a Super Bowl run.
P.S. - THANK YOU for taking Shockey off of our hands!!

Fire Gary Gibbs.

We had three turnovers last night and still gave up 29 points! He’s horrible! GET RID OF HIM PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 30th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I seem to remember that jim mora in indy refused to fire an assistant coach because he was a friend. Mora was soon fired. can someone tell me why terrible coachs like former ass. coach rick venture is still coaching he has been a horrible coach but yet he still has a job.
December 7th, 2008 at 2:37 pm

December 7th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Coach marvin lewis will probally be fired at the end of the season and he was the great defensive cor. who led the great ravens defense and if we can bring him hear we will be unstopable.I know a coach hates to bring in other coaches but if sean loves the saints as much as i do plz dont make us suffer and more PLEASE!!!!!
December 7th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

December 9th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Coach Payton,
Thank you for the wonderful things you have done for the city of New Orleans and the Saints organization. One thing I ask of you is to improve the teams defense to compliment the offense. As John Madden would say, “Defense is what wins championships”. We need a defense. With a defense, there is no doubt in my mind the Saints will make it to the Super Bowl. I respectfully request you release Gary Gibbs and hire Marvin Lewis as the Saints Defensive Coordinator.
December 11th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
I have been a Saints fan since 1968. I have weathered many storms. It makes me sick to my stomach, everytime I watch this defense lose a game. Kyle Orton and the Bears were handed this game, by a defensive coordinator who can’t coordinate baking a cake. He has had almost 3 years to bring in the players he claimed he was missing to make his system work. Can any of us not perform at our jobs for 3 years and stay employed? Enough is enough. FIRE GARY GIBBS!!!!

It hurts……..It hurts…really bad! Since I was little, watching my uncles take their binoculars and their hopes to the Superdome on Sundays, to waching them take road trips to Houston comming back with the same frustrated look on their faces. It hurts when you watch the team’s first playoff game, with arguably the best linebackers ever to play in the NFL, and being subjected to watching a free play before the end of the half due to a penalty, with Hasaan Jones lying on his back with the ball in his hands for a TD. It hurts….from the Ditka collapse to the Haslet horror…The Brooks joke………and now the defensive despair we are in now. It just all hurts! Sure, we could have won about three more games with a few field goals that should have been made, but all in all, it should not have to come down to that. I believe we have a blaring weekness in the secondary that everyone sees, but the defensive coordinator. We do not have enough pass rush to compensate for the lack of speed, awareness, and toughness that is displayed on a weekly basis. It hurts to see our Offense fight through tough games, only to see the opponent march down the field almost effortlessly. Don’t you feel the hurt? It should not take us having a good opening offensive drive to get the defense excited, it should be the other way around! The old saying still holds true…”Defense wins games” , so our defense needs to help us by Winning Some Games!! This can only be done if the defensive coordinator and his assistants can put together a winning game plan, and it hasn’t been done yet! Yes, in 2006 our wounds were stiched and pached up in hopes it was the beginning of the permanent healing of all those years of agony, but someone has reopened those wounds and put salt in them, and his name is Gary Gibbs. The only way to heal our wounds and stop the hurt is to hire a new leader on defense, and bring to us the only cure for over 40 years of lost hope. The cure for our hurts is a brand named remedy called………..Lombardi

couldn’t have put it any better myself…
December 15th, 2008 at 11:35 am
It has to happen. He’s had 3 years to figure this out with different players in different positions and even some players he refuses to play. The bottom line is that his scheme is transparent and not working. Time to try something new. It’s obviously not the offense (highest scoring offense in the league!)

Gary Gibbs couldn’t figure out how to blitz if it bit him in the butt. I am tired of watching QB’s sitting in the pocket with time to eat lunch and never be touched. It is time to find a new DC. Please stop the bleeding and fire Gibbs now.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:00 am
If Payton refuses to fire Gibbs then you can be prepared for another 8 - 8 season next year.
Payton would rather coach a mediocre team. And he doesn’t give a damn if he throws away Drew Brees’ prime, as long as he doesn’t have to admit he was wrong.
Mickey Loomis will have to FORCE Payton to fire Gibbs, and we all know that Loomis does whatever Payton wants, so don’t count on that either.
With the blind leading the blind out on Airline Drive what decent defensive player will ever want to come and play for Gary Gibbs’ defense? Not any that want any kind of championship, that’s for sure.
Somebody please send Payton a clue for Christmas!
December 17th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Folks its not just Gary Gibbs, its M-ic-k-e-y L-oo-mis and his blind eye for talent. Charles Grant & Will Smith has never had a consistent pass rush i.e. John Abraham/Julius Peppers etc. Ever since Deuce went down last year, Sean Payton paniced and went pass happy (living vicariously through Brees) with a quarterback that has never been able to carry the entire load, or come through in the clutch i.e. Peyton Manning/Tom Brady, and Bush is a Wes Welker type and not a running back, so its not just Gibbs, its the entire coaching staff. Mediocre players on defense and mediocre coaching all around. 8-8, now that’s the Sainst I’ve always known
December 26th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Hahaha! The open letter was posted on my birthday! What a present! Way to go, admin! Gary Gibbs needs to go!

I’m a Sooner fan, and Gibbs was once our head coach from 1989-1994, after Barry Switzer. The dude always choked in big games(1-5 against Texass, 1-5 against Nebraska, 0-5-1 against Colorado, and tied Okie State one year[you HAVE TO BEAT OKIE STATE, NOT TIE THEM OR LOSE TO THEM!]), even though they were on probation and lost scholarships. After he lost his 4th straight to Texass, some OU fan poured beer on him. So we Sooner fans know how you Saints feel about Gary Gibbs.
December 26th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Dear Tom Benson, Mickey Loomis, & Sean Payton,
The city of New Orleans deserves better than Gary Gibbs.
Now give us your best by making the tough decision.
Regards,
Sammy

Man, I remember back in the eighties and couldnt wait to watch Saints football with my dad. That reason was to see Ricky Jackson,Pat Swilling,Sam Mills,Toi Cook better known as the Dome Patrol.Having them on a poster hanging in my bedroom. A 3-4 defense you’d be talking about all week with you buds on the playground. That’s what I’d love to see back in the dome.I enjoy seeing highlights on Youtube. You should check it out!
December 28th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
So we’ve had another great performance by Drew Brees and the offense, scored over 30 points and lost. For the last three years the Saints have had one of the worst defenses in the NFL, ultimately Gibbs bears the responsibility. It’s time to find someone who can coach the defense. Our game plan revolve around scoring at least 40 points to to overcome the defense, the game plan going forward has involve a defensive coordinator with talent. We have a great defensive guy here in Virginia, his name is Bud Foster with Virginia Tech, he can show you how defense is played. We Saints fans deserve better, the players deserve better, the city of New Orleans deserves better. Do the right thing, hire someone new.
December 28th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Here we go again, whither it’s Sean Payton, Jim Mora,Jim Haslett,or Mike Dictka. Why dose this team always make the same mistakes over and over. When it was Jim Mora, we were billed as a contender, and I truly believed we were. Hind sight being 20/20 we only had 3 problems, 1) Bobby Herbert 2) Carl Smith and 3) Jim Finks’ death. Contrary to popular opinion Bobby Herbert was one of the worst QBs in my opinion, he couldn’t throw a straight bullet, so all of our receivers had to wait for the ball and jump for it with their backs to the goal and would get smacked if they made the catch, consequently they would suffer from alligator arms with the exception of maybe, Eric Martin. Then there was Carl Smith, remember him? Jim Mora’s brother-inlaw, the most bone-headed OC/play caller to ever be involved in the game, with the exception of Sean Payton, but we’ll get back to him later. And finally Jim Finks died, and I knew were going to die as a team after that, he was a true judge of talent. When Bill Kuericah or whatever his name took over at GM, Jim Mora fires Steve Sidwell the only DC the Saints ever had as a Scape goat. Then there was Iron Mike, wow that was a bad joke. Would someone please explain how this man was allowed to trade all of our draft picks for one player, when we had a below average defense? Answer, Bill Kuarch, there was only one bright spot Zaven Uralien DC, this man had nothing to work with but made that team play hard every week and I think we improved a bit after the dome patrol had been dismantled a few years earlier. Then we had hope once again the hiring of GM Randy Muellier, I think that was the best move we could have made, he wasn’t Jim Finks but he was a true GM, it didn’t really matter so much who the coach was, because the talent level would definitely would improve. I thought Jim Haslet wasn’t a bad coach because he made the team rally again and he got us interested in the game again and did anyone notice the Saints D at least for one season was no. 1 again, we won our first playoff game. Then for little or no reason Mr. Benson Fires The GM and we get a bean counter for a GM. Let me ask a question? Do you think things will ever get any better? Answer, HELL NO! Not as long as the bottom line is the sole motivating factor. Mr. Benson, are you in it just for the money??? I hope not, but if you are, think about this, if you ever win a Superbowl for us. Do you think you would ever have to worry about selling out the dome, do you doubt that you would get that new stadium, do you think the State would ever not give you your extortion payments (because that is what it is extortion, blackmail, inducements whatever) ??? Of course not! Yes, yes, yes, we need a new DC but we also need a real GM, a true judge of talent, Not a glorified bean counter masquerading as a GM. The entire coaching staff need to be overhauled from the assistant head coach to the strength and conditioning coaches and Sean Payton should be reeled in or demoted to AC. The vast majority of lost games is his fault because of his stubbornness. His blatant refusal to run the football, he has on more than one occasion demoralized his own defense, by losing the time of possession battle and blowing out his own defense in the fourth quarter!!! If he won’t comply then he needs to be fired. The biggest problems we have are not so much the personnel as it is the coaching, sure we need at least one free safety two corner backs two outside linebackers and another defensive tackle, but we also need a left offensive tackle and a center, the bean counter oh I mean GM let Jeff Faine the gritty, tough and crafty center get away! I mean, how many times Loomis/Payton screwed us, let me count the ways. Shocky, Meachem, Reggie,Shanley,Bollocks, Faine and let’s not forget Jason David, To go out and get a short cover 2 corner to play man/press coverage? Mr Benson give us a break, you have admit you made mistakes making Loomis GM and giving Payton a contract extension. MR BENSON IS YOUR INTENTION TO SO FRUSTRATE THE FANS AS TO TURN US AGAINST YOU AND USE THE STATES DIRE FINANCIAL STRATES TO HOLD THE STADIUM ISSUE OVER ALL OUR HEADS ALONG WITH THE SO CALLED SMALL MARKET ISSUE AS AN EXCUSE TO MOVE THE TEAM TO DESTROY WHAT’S LEFT OF NEW ORLEANS? I sincerely hope not I am a born and raised New Orleanean and displaced Katrina victim who desperately wants to come home and will soon, I just hope I have something to come home to, and a very big part of that is the Saints!
December 28th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
The Bears game in Week 15 was a perfect example…Kyle Orton picked us apart late in the game and had our playoff hopes dashed once again. Rewind and look back that the defense we were playing. Gibbs had his guys playing pure man to man, allowing Greg Olsen, one of the most athletic and large young tight ends in the league, to rape us down the middle and on the sidelines. A nice Cover 2 or some blitzing zone to force Orton to cough up the ball would have done the trick, as it would have taken away the short field and forced Orton to try to go deep. Yet, some 5 plays, most of which were passes to Olsen, and a spectacular catch by Brandon Lloyd against man coverage (come on, this guy has been making plays like this since his Illinois days) was all it took to drive the Bears down the field, give Gould room to force overtime…which eventually led to a pass interference penalty on Roman Harper and a game-winner. Gibbs, it’s time to pack up and leave…don’t forget to take your weak, unimaginative, soft defensive scheme with you.

Sick of tired of losing! Every year me and my brother are dedicated fans living in different cities and for the past 3 yrs and we are not happy with the Saints coaching staff & personnel decisions. FIRE GARY GIBBS. The defense has been rank almost dead last every year and if Sean Payton is not aware of this, then he is simply retarded and Benson needs to fire his ass! We need CHANGE! This offense is too good not to have a defense to compliment it’s offense. Romeo will fired soon, bring him in as a defensive coordinator. Hell the 3-4 defense was a success with us, REMEMBER THE DOME PATROL! We need a coach on the sidelines like Mike Singletary getting in their faces when someone blows an assignment. I’m sick of tired of this losing. I want to feel like a Steelers fan or a Giants fan, we need a winning philosophy on this team with the goal to win a Superbowl every year. We need change and Firing Gary Gibbs ass will be the first step!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Gary Gibbs has had his chance in the Big Easy… He failed!!! Reguardless of what the players say, they have underachived under Gibbs’s watch. He has not movitated these guys and YES, he does run a vanilla scheme.
Please Sean… Cut ties with your long time friend or it will be both of you looking for work in 2010.
FIRE GARY GIBBS, HIRE SEAN McDERMOTT!!!

December 30th, 2008 at 3:26 am
Mr. Payton I read the article on NOLA.com. You should be frekin tared and feathered for that cocknbull interview. Are you truly a dunce? You know you have to fire that fool Gary Gibbs, you need to stop trying to sound smart and do the smart thing. FIRE THE DAMM FOOL, you are on the verge of losing your fan support. No one likes to be pushed around eight times in a season, especially in our house. I’ve looked back at all your games, I want to kick myself every time I defended you. People would say you were too aggressive and I would say no, they would say that was a dumb play, I would say no, now I won’t get into all the other colorful and insulting things they would say and I’d say that’s not true. In 2006 we didn’t beat anyone, we had a soft schedule we didn’t beat the Steelers, Bucs, or Panthers. In fact we didn’t beat one single good team that year especially none that ran a cover two/3 4 defenses except Dallas and there overrated, then and now. But the bitter pill was the Chicago game, all you had to do was run the football. The same thing happened again in 07, 0 and 4 all Tampa two teams and you know why, you didn’t run the damm football, result 7 and 9. In 08 more of the same, at the start we should’ve been 8 and 1, result 8 and 8. As far as the Panthers game what were you thinking leaving them 3:11 on the clock when your defense was getting there @$$es riped and busted all day. Scoring in less than 40 seconds, are you retarded or insaine? I can’t tell you how much I hate Chicago and Tampa Bay and you blew those to. If you got some reevaluations to do look at your entire record, view all the games again as I did and you tell me if you see anything to be proud of, and be honest with and about yourself. Fire the DC and get a Jim Johnson philosophy DC, strive for a 50/50 run pass ratio, I mean line up and bust somebody in the mouth, Show some balls!!! And finally STOP ALL THE TRICK AND GADGET PLAYS, you have the xxs and oos just delegate play-calling to your new AC if you can’t control your emotions. Stop trying to run Reggie up the middle, his body is not built to take that kind of pounding, once in a while you can sneak him up the middle just to keep them honest. One other thing FIRE ALL STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING STAFF they must be incompetent.
Get your head out of your ass and let’s go win the division.
December 30th, 2008 at 11:46 am
When everyone else was screaming for Gibbs’ head mid-season I was giving Payton the benefit of the doubt and was sure that he was just waiting until the end of the season to fire him.
However, after his comments to the media yesterday I feel like he’s actually considering keeping Gibbs. It doesn’t take a week to fire somebody Sean!!
If you stubbornly keep Gibbs on staff despite the fact that he’s the worst DC in the league then you’ll be proving to everyone that you really don’t care about WINNING.
You were once by far my favorite Saints head coach ever. Sadly it seems that you’re now turning into just another Saints head coach that’s too stubborn to admit he’s made a mistake.
Perhaps you should ask your predecessors exactly what that stubborness got them.
December 30th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
I’m feeling the whole Jim Mora/Carl Smith relationship thing happening again………….scary huh?
December 30th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
d
December 30th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
well Sean, its pretty obvious youre keeping Gibbs. Please note, Shanahan just got fired for an 8-8 season. He also had a top rated passing attack but no defense.
The chargers and Norv had some balls and fired their DC mid season because their D sucked. Its better than ours.
And finally, the Texans also just fired their DC, and their defense was also better than ours.
So, Gibbs been here 3 years. no improvement.
The window for winning a SB is getting smaller. Great offenses usually only last 4-5 years. We are heading in to year 4.
Looking at the defenses ranked 8th and 9th… if our D was that good, we’d be 14-2 this season.
Quit expecting the offense to play perfect, and please start expecting SOMETHING decent from the defense.
remember 9th rank = 14-2.
December 30th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Sean i been a long time fan of the new orleans saints. im from new orleans but i had to relocate to tennessee because of hurricane katrina. its time that the new orleans saints start playing football because people are not feeling sorry for the saints because of katrina no more. youre still a great coach in my eyes but i feel like its your fault for wasting away the prime years in drew brees career. in the press conferences when reporters question drew about a game, he dont want to say that the sorry ass defense lost the game. drew threw for 5000 yards and 34 touchdowns and number offense in the nfl this season only to finish with and 8 and 8 record and no playoff apperence. That means the offense is just that good and the defense is just that bad. Gary gibbs is terrible. I dont blame the players, i blame him because he should see that his corners are not good enough to play man to man. he should be in zone. his defense has finished in the bottom half of the league since you hired him you might like him as a person but i think its time to cut ties with him because we all know that this is a what have you done for me lately league. And if you do fire gibbs dont go and do anything stupid like hire another defensive coordinator that had a defense in the bottom half of the nfl. Another thing is there anyway you can re negociate the contracts of charles grant and will smith because they are very overpaid. we could be using that money some where else like a weakside linebacker or a free safety or cornerback or strong safety
December 30th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Sean, dont listen to people who say you have to run the football. you offensen has been clicking on all cylinders. you just need a defense and you just need to get a better defensive coordinator
December 31st, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Defensive Ranking:
2006 11th Inherited Haslett’s guys, added Fujita, Shanle
2007 26th Added Jason David at Gibbs request
2008 24th Added Vilma, Gay at Gibbs request
The Saints need a defense in at least the top 15 to have a winning record. Gary Gibbs has gond backward, even with big free-agent additions to his squad. Sorry, but if you can’t crack the top-15 in your third year with the squad you put together yourself, you need to move on.
Nothing personal. I don’t hate Gary Gibbs, it’s just that he isn’t working out here. Based on performance he is a failure. Let’s hire Romeo Crennel or another Defensive master and see if they can perform.
January 1st, 2009 at 12:03 am
Ed Orgeron just took the assistant coach and D-line coach position in the college ranks with Tennesee. This may not have much effect on the defense even though there was so much talk of how the D-line was going to be improved this year, and failed to get a pass rush. I know we had many guys hurt this year, but this is still the NFL. There should always be players on the sideline with the same talent level to go out there and produce. Look at Philly, look at New England, look at the Giants, they all worked through the injury bug. But we can’t blame it all on Ed, because he was working with the hand he was dealt. He was also very smart and took the Saban route, realizing the pros are a whole different animal and got out before being the scapegoat. Payton, don’t let friendship cloud your judgement, because you may be the next Mike Shanahan. We don’t just want exciting football, we want a winning football team! We want it now! It’s now or never! Don’t let the contract extension fool you neither, because Benson cut ties with Haslet a short time after giving him an extension. And by the way, Mickey Loomis should not feel invincible either, because GM’s heads have been rolling too!
January 2nd, 2009 at 10:54 am
Please fire this freaking guy!! I’ve been saying that for the last 3 seasons…
3 strikes and your out !!!
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:05 am
Oh and to have the top offense in the NFL and only be 8-8 in remarkable, this only points in one direction. Fire GG Please !!!!
January 3rd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
On NOLA.COM Payton sounds like he’s leaning towards blaming Ogeron for the defensive shortfalls this year. Doesn’t sound promising as far as us getting a new D-coordinator. I really hope we don’t have to go through another “house cleaning” like we did with Ditka and Haslet, but it seems to be going in that direction due to the continued stubborness of Sean Payton.
January 4th, 2009 at 3:57 am
I have to agree with others who’ve said that if Sean Payton does not fire Gibbs then he himself should be fired.
January 4th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I’m with these guys payton!! Brees is lights out and him and shockey aint even got going with each other Colston jst took the year off and meachum showed he can be ok and Henderson needs 2 learn how 2 catch a easy pass lol but gibbs is jst not the guy and deuce is done unless he takes a major pay cut and giv thomas a shot 2 be the guy but draft defense and get healthy get some dome patrol in the house
January 4th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Fire this fool Gibbs. His scheme is so damn vanilla.
January 4th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
I read the original article and dont understand what the guy is talking about. He talks about all this talent we have on defense. He has discredited himself right there. The stiffs we have on defense are a joke. With the exception of Vilma (who we may not be able to resign next year), Ellis, McKenzie (who we’ll be lucky if he comes back physically able enough to play safety, much less CB), and Porter who showed some promise last year before getting injured, who do we have ? Nothing but a bunch of rejects, has beens, and never weres. We seem to have collected all the garbage we could find from around the leaguge and assembled them on our defense. The legendary Buddy Ryan cold not win with this collection of clowns. Look at our $120 mill DE tubs of lard. Got paid, got fat, cant play.
Im not neccesarily against replacing Gibbs, but if anyone here thinks we will get better just by replacing him, you need to put down your crack pipe and see things for how they are. We have NO talent on defense. And with very few draft picks I wouldnt really count on us adding a whole lot of talent in the offseason either. What decent replacement would even want this job when they look at the lack of talent on this team ? If they looked even further in to our hiring practices they will then realize we only go after someone if they have recently been injured, or are given at an incredible discount. Sounds like a great job. I would take it just because it would mean being able to work in the NFL, but would any candidate who is serious about becoming a DC in the NFL really be interested in this job ? I dont really think getting rid of Gibbs is the answer, but maybe some change is needed, even if they dont bring results.
January 4th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I can agree that Gibbs is not the sole reason for our lack of success, but being the D-coordinator with the control he has (and let’s be honest, Payton handed free reign to Gibbs on D) should have plenty input in that front office on who we need on defense to have success. I’m sure Loomis and Payton have the final say, but if you have the proof (and the last three seasons are a lot of proof!) that our D lacks success, then it’s no rocket science……..just fix it! I know many people don’t want to hear this, but with the extra WR talent we have on offense we can make some wise moves in free agency that can help us retreive a draft pick or two that were given up last off season. We need to get this thing turned around and compliment the offense with a tenacious defense…..quickly! With the era of free agency most teams don’t stay completely intact for more than three or four seasons at the most. What’s so different about our team? We can have a nasty D like the Ravens, Titans, Steelers, Giants, Panthers, we just need to make the right moves and that takes the coaches and front office to do that. With all that being said, if the “culture” in the font office and the coaching staff doesn’t change, then we will continue to beat our heads against the wall wondering “when will it be our turn”? I’m like the rest of the Saints fans out there, I’m just tired of waiting for that magical “next year” to happen. Yes, and through all this no matter how frustrating it is, I know many of you just like me, will still cheer and be completely sold out to the black and gold, screaming at games until you can’t speak at work the next day, yelling “who dat” walking up to the Dome, replenishing your wardrobe with clothing sporting that beloved fleur de lis, and letting your flags flap in the wind on the sides of your cars on the interstate. We are all just ready for that magical “next year”, and ready to have “our turn”.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
The Saints will be just another mediocre team until Gibbs is replaced.
One thing for you to think about Mr. Payton. If you stubbornly refuse to fire Gibbs now, then next season when you finish the season hovering around 8 - 8 again, you, and not Gibbs will be the one on the hot seat.
Do yourself a favor and take a long hard look at the what happened to the head coaches that came before you, and try to learn from their mistakes.
January 5th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Our defense is vanilla and bland. It leaves a bad taste in our mouths as fans to put up 30 PPG and still get beaten. We need a new, creative defensive coordinator who will keep the opponents guessing and restore our D to the days of the Dome Patrol!
January 5th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
The man might be a great guy to go out drinking with or have over for a family function, but as far as calling defensive plays in the NFL. He seems to be lacking the ability to adjust to the opposing teams offenses. Looking at the schemes many other teams are using now and comparing them to our simple 4-3 “Wait and see what happens” style of Defense, is hard to watch. I don’t think Gary even knows what the definition of “Stunting” linemen means. Why did Harper get 4 Sacks last year and nothing this year? What happened between 07′ and now? I can understand the lack of talent at Safety and the lack of speed in the LB Core, but that doesn’t mean we can’t at least try some out of the ordinary blitzing.
PS: Find a way to rush the passer this year…

Sean , your offense averaged 28 points per game (the most in the league) this team has no business going 8-8, That is ridiculous, You need to take a page out of the Chargers book , Ron Rivera took over that defence with the same personnel and look at what they have accomplished, they were 4-8 and and ended 8-8, and now a playoff win against a quality , Very hot Colts team that won 9 straight games. Gibbs seems like he doesn’t want to get after anybody or know how to attack no offence. Even Brandon Marshall said “The defence that they’re trying to run, they don’t have the personnel to run it”. You scheme is not fooling anybody.” FIRE THIS PRICK AND BE DONE WITH HIM”. How stupid are you to keep doing the same thing the same way, you’re going to get the same results, Isn’t that the definition of insanity. We need creativity on defence, We need to be a bit more exotic with our schemes, And Gibbs just don’t have the mind to keep up with the better offensive coordinators in the league nowadays.

Green Bay just chopped six defensive coaches including the D-coordinator, and no one can say that was going to happen to that extent. This definitely does not mean for us to go and hire any of these guys, knowing they had issues on a defense that actually has more talent than our defense has. This is even more reason for the Saints orginization to evaluate (knowing there is not much to evaluate) and change the coaching personel on defense. Hey guys………….are we all preaching to the choir yet? We all on this website have been saying the same thing in some shape or form, so we all can say this together. ” Fix the D#%N Defense Now”! We need DOME PATROL!!!!!!!!

I think it’s pretty telling that every other non-playoff team in the league got to work right away on evaluating their coaching staffs and making changes where needed,.. and Sean Payton and the Saints.. well.. they went on vacation.
Gibbs has to go, that goes without saying. Mickey Loomis however, needs to go as well. It’s absolutely ridiculous for a GM to sit on his ass and do nothing, allow everyone to go on vacation when the organization is in the state that it is.
Loomis, grow a pair and force Sean Payton to fire Gibbs. If he refuses, fire them both. If you refuse, then do us all a favor and resign.

Enough is enough!!! We have had good defensive players in place - we could get all pro bowlers and still see no difference - he has had ample time to prove himself - Time to put friendship aside, he cannot do his job and what would happen to any of us after you have had the time, your choice of players and still no production - we get fired!!!! Bye Gibbs!!!

January 6th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
not only do we need to fire Gary gibbs there is also a few things that need to be changed charles grant needs to be moved to DT alongs side ellis and Mcray needs to be the starting DE with will smith Grant is just to slow to be DE we need to get rid of Jason David Kevin K and Shanle and replace Shanle with a true pass rusher As bad as it is we need a clean slate at defensive coaches from top to bottom who ever they hire they need to let him bring in his own crew BUT no matter what something needs to CHANGE NOW

I don’t think Gibbs is a bad coordinator , I just don’t believe his scheme fits this personnel. He has more of a coverage scheme than a pressure scheme. He wants to get pressure with his front four ,And if they don’t get pressure it’s hard to make adjustments if your secondary can’t cover particularly your safeties. I don’t beleive Gibbs has confidence in his corners enough to leave them on an island and I don’t blame him when they still give up big plays when they have safety help over the top. I agree he is a little vanilla, Saint defenders never stunt the gaps or anything to try to disguise coverage, But that wouldn’t matter once a good QB assess the play when it opens up. If you blitz with our linebackers, our safeties would be stuck covering opposing Tight ends and runningbacks , And their not good enough playmakers to do that against a half way descent QB. I still beleive he could be a little more creative. And you might as well blitz alot if they give up big plays anyhow.

I just heard it on the radio! Gibbs is gone. I hope they find someone who can bring the guys together and show how great they really are!
January 7th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
It is Done! Hopefully this is the beginning of a short journey to that coveted Superbowl Championship that has for so long eluded us! I really mean this as much as you guys…….GEAUX SAINTS!
January 7th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
sorry saints fans we have will smith and charles grant under huge contracts both average players. we won’t be abled to sign good players in free agency. smith and grant are dead weight. both had good years when first came into the league but have tailed off quite a bit. saints are going to have serious issues on defense. because of tens of millions tied up in these two. anyone tell me how many sacks these guys had the last two years combined? nuff said
January 7th, 2009 at 7:33 pm

January 7th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Wow, GG is gone!!! I guess i can make my Superbowl preparations. Would love to see a couple of SB appearances with the Saints finally winning it all at the new Cowgirl stadium here in Arlington. Thanks for listening Payton, your best days are ahead! GEAUX SAINTS!!!
January 7th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Well friends, he finally did it! mission acomplished! now all we have to do is pray that we dont get one of the other losers in the market to replace him, stay away from 3-4 scheme at all costs, and get lucky in the draft and free agency. My only advice to Peyton and Loomis is, DONT BE CHEAP THIS TIME AROUND! Pay the friggin extra bucks for GOOD defensive players instead of squandering money on mediocre/garbage players! Firing Gibbs was jus the begining….theres still alot more work that needs to be done. We’ll all be waiting for April 25
January 8th, 2009 at 8:32 am
Please not Romeo Crennel and that 3-4 defence. Where is Ray Rhodes ?
January 8th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Well all I can say is its about time. Gary gibbs was about as sharp as a pound of wet leather when it came to calling defensive schemes. Now its time for payton to step up. You can day what you want but his play calling cost us almost every lost game except for the first carolina game and atlanta. Other than that he clowned it in all the losses. He will regret droping deuce when its all said and done same way he feels about giving carney his walking papers. Who dat!
