MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
It was officially announced today that Gary Gibbs has been fired as defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints!
While we’re sure that this was an extremely difficult decision for Coach Payton and Mr. Loomis to make, we do in fact applaud the decision, and thank them for restoring our hope!
God knows that Coach Payton has faced a firestorm of criticism from the fans (myself certainly included), the media, bloggers and internet forum posters on this issue for months now, and he has handled it all with decidedly more grace and dignity than probably most of us would have.
He made probably the toughest decision that he has made yet as a head coach, and in doing so he has restored at least this one Saints fan’s faith and belief in him as head coach of the New Orleans Saints. He has proven that he’ll do what needs to be done for the betterment of the team and we wholeheartedly support and applaud his efforts!

Thanks coach for moving this team in the right direction. Now use Bush the way you did his rookie year, pick your spots and quit running him up the middle so much.

Now that you have seen the light Sean, you must now turn your attention to his replacement. In my humble opinion, a good replacement would be Sean McDermott of Philly. A Jim Johnson disciple, would be an excellent choice. After reading numerous articles on Gregg Williams it sounds to me that at one time he was good, but now sounds like he may be having some problems. I don’t want to say he is a head case, but he would be a retread, why don’t you consider a young, hungry and fresh face anxious to prove himself. Hey he might bring Dawkins with him. That would be great, and if Benson/Loomis will bite the bullet,1) bring in that elite corner from Oakland, 2) due what’s necessary to draft Taylor Mays, and 3) trade for a fast OLB you would have done the job, at least for this year. Considering the shape were in signing Vilma is a no brainer. With this scenario the only other thing you would need to do is cut J. David, K. Kasivahorn and J. bullocks. I don’t think they would be missed. Have some courage argue for it, push hard and make it stick. Oh one other thing let your DC pick his own line and linebackers coaches and stay off the defensive side let him run it. Good luck SP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good move Sean! Have Jason David and Kasivahorn help pack Gibbs bags out the door. I had hoped for this move last year. I back tboy in saying let the new DC pick his players, but I say lets get the offense and defense on the same page. Drew is litin’ it up and here here to that, but when the O flexis it’s offensive muscle ALL day, the D gets worn out. All I say to the new hire and to Payton is balance will bring us to the next level. Pray for Reggie’s knee!

He has been leading the team in the right direction. And thank God we got rid of Gibbs. Now Bush, with him the problem is him NOT running up the middle ENOUGH or never he is the one that need to grow the balls now and stop looking for the sidelines.Looking forward to seeing the defense next season.

Hopefully this is where the Dome Patrol is resurected. Gregg Williams himself is not a bad choice, but remember that coaches who move to other orginizations have to contend with the fact that their choices of D coaches has plenty to do with the succes of the team and are not guaranteed to get the results they want because some of their choices of coaches just will not be available due to obligations with their current teams. This reason alone may be why Gregg Williams has been looked upon as not having as much success as he may have had in the past. This also holds true for anyone the Saints decide on bringing in, and we all know the right decisions will be made (and better be made) to ensure the best possibilties for us to get to that mountain top we so hungrily seek. I just feel deep down that we are really moving in the right direction by making the defense and its coaches the priority in improving this team, so we can get to that championship! Geaux Saints!

Bleednblackngold is right, balance is the key. One of the biggest reasons for our lack of defensive success is scoring too quickly. I’m not saying we should stop being aggressive on offense, but to show more discipline. To always be mindful of the time of possession. Sure it’s exciting to see Drew lightin it up, but if the other team has the ball 40 plus minutes in the game, the defense probably won’t have it, to bring it, in the fourth quarter. Keep that in mind. Sean, a lot of people are back on your bandwagon, myself included. Don’t blow it!!! Good Luck. One more thing don’t let anyone stand in your DC’s way including yourself.
